IMG_1574Nearly Summer!

We’ve had a busy few months here at Rockwood. Our first outfitting trips seem like yesterday even though they were over 7 weeks ago! The bunkhouse and cabins have been full several times, and the bookings are looking very strong. In addition we have every one of our Tandem canoes rented out the last week of July, even the new ones we bought! We also took delivery of a 4-person Kevlar canoe, and it is beginning to rent out as well. It’s 20’5″ and only weighs 48 lbs! The middle two seats can be removed, so you can vary the loading of the canoe to maximize the stuff you bring into the wilderness.

Wildlife

We continue to see lots of wildlife, from Moose to fox, beavers and loons. Our guests from Alabama showed us that fishing on Poplar lake is alive and well. As a result they caught their limit of Bass and Northerns. Others have found great fishing on Swamp and Banadad lake. Furthermore, the moose viewing on Horseshoe lake is second to none right now!

Projects

The shingles for the outfitters were delivered today, we look forward to getting them installed. We went with Forest Green, to keep the traditional look of the outfitting building. Most noteworthy we are slowly progressing on the upstairs apartment. Thanks goes to my Sister visiting from Iowa for spurring on the project!

Outfitting

Guests have enjoyed the new outfitting gear we have purchased, to include the Bending Branches wooden bent shaft paddles and the 4 liter gravity water filters. We even found a source for wind resistant, storm proof matches! Especially relevant – the Camp Chow food is a big hit, and we want to thank the good people at Trail Center for making such great food.

Cabins

In addition, one of the cabins sprung a leak in the roof, but a tube of tar quickly resolved that issue (we think!). Guests are coming from throughout the US, including the fishermen from Alabama, Alaska, Iowa, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, Nebraska and Colorado. We even had a visitor from as far away as Ely, Minnesota!

Brochures

We have finally created our brochures, we are able to mail them as needed. Let us know if you want one, two or several dozen! We could use your help spreading the word about Rockwood, and putting these brochures out into the places where people meet. Send us your mailing address and we’ll put them in the mail today!
