Eight Years Here and Ready for Next Year

Last week, we (Carl, Stephanie, Mike, and Carol)  celebrated eight years of owning and operating the wonderful Rockwood Lodge and Outfitters.

As we light a fire in the stone fireplace in the main lodge and reflect on those eight years, we have much to be thankful for on this week’s day of Thanksgiving. Most significantly, we’re grateful for all of you who chose Rockwood for your BWCA wilderness adventures or Gunflint Trail resort stay on Poplar Lake since 2016.

Our gratitude for you knows no bounds, and we look forward to seeing you here next year.

Although the resort is mainly closed during winter, we are working hard now to prepare for next year. As you think about your Gunflint Trail adventure for 2024, we want to help you plan early to get the times and cabins you’d most enjoy. We highly recommend doing so soon if you’ve not booked your place yet.

Rockwood boasts eight clean north woods cabins perched on the shore of Poplar Lake, a gateway to the BWCA. We are midway up the Gunflint Trail from Grand Marais. The cabins book quickly, so check out our online booking system at Rockwoodbwca.com soon.

Cabin 12 is our winterized cabin, and it opens in January and is available through March. All of our cabins are open from early May through October. When you go to the website, you should have alternate days in mind to get the optimum vacation experience. If you don’t find what you need, call us at (218) 388-2242, and we’ll see what we can find for you.

We have a two, three or four night minimum night stay on the cabins, but our bunkhouse may be reserved for a one-night visit, especially the night before or after your BWCA adventure.

Booking now ensures your cabin is here when you want to be here.

We require a deposit with your reservation, and we know things can come up in your life that could force you to cancel your plans. If you grant us at least 30 days notice before your arrival date, we will refund your deposit minus a $35 service charge.

To find more information to help plan your vacation, visit www.visitcookcounty.com, www.gunflinttrail.com, and the USFS Boundary Waters website.

If your plans include a trek into the Boundary Waters, an important date to know is January 31, 2024. That day, a Wednesday at 9 a.m. CST, is when BWCA permits go on sale. We’ll be here to assist you in making reservations and outfitting your trip that day. You may call or text us at (218) 388-2242.

Need a gift idea for the holidays? We have a handful of canoes for sale. These late-model stars of our fleet will bring you years of enjoyment. Ask us about buying now and picking up your canoe for your wilderness trip next season, and start it here on Poplar Lake.
